Man caught stealing at Wal-Mart
A 52-year-old Monument man was caught stealing more than $75 in
tools from the Castle Rock Wal-Mart on June 24.
Wal-Mart’s loss prevention officer observed the man enter the
automotive section of the store with several items in his shopping
cart. The man then removed two items from their packaging, stuffed
them inside a larger package and continued shopping.
The man was detained by Wal-Mart employees when he failed to pay
for the merchandise concealed in other packages.
When Castle Rock Police arrived the man said “there must be some
misunderstanding, however I offered to make restitution,” before
deciding it was in his best interest to stop talking.
Wal-Mart reported that the stolen items were a socket set valued
at $17.76 and a 96-piece mechanics set valued at $58.88.
Castle Rock Police issued the man a municipal summons on the
charge of general theft.
Appliances missing
More than $2,000 worth of brand new appliances was stolen from a
Castle Rock home Friday night or early Saturday morning .
The couple who owned the home at 3578 Wonder Drive had just
closed on the house June 25, but had noticed during the final
walk-through that a garage door opener was missing.
When the couple returned to their new home the following day
they discovered the door from the garage to the house had been
kicked in and the residence robbed, apparently through the
garage.
The couple had not moved into the home, but all the appliances
were new and had been installed. A stainless steel refrigerator was
left laying on its side in the front room and the rest of the
appliances – a GE Profile dishwasher, GE Oven and GE Microwave –
were taken.
The case is being investigated by the Castle Rock Police
Department. Evidence, including smudged finger prints on the
refrigerator and a tag for a pair of Brown jersey work gloves, was
collected at the scene, but at this time there are no
suspects.
