Just when we thought nothing more could be said about the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, along comes word that the Jeffco gem had broken one of its own records.
During “The Women,” which ran from Jan. 27 through Feb. 22, the Arvada Center sold 14,033 tickets. Previously, “Wait Until Dark” held the record during its 2000-2001 run in which 13,364 ducats were dolled out.
“The Women” featured an all-local cast of women who entertained crowds with a look into the high-society scene of Manhattan and Park Avenue in the 1930s.
Here at the newspapers,
we apparently have more sway than we realize
at times. There was a meeting held March 8 night at Prospect Valley Elementary School, primarily to discuss the expansion of the Applewood Baptist Church at Simms Street and West 32nd Avenue.
A grassroots group, which doesn’t favor the expansion, called the meeting to rally against the plan. After much discussion about the church, a question and answer session was held. During the Q&A, one gentleman asked if they were going to talk about the new Cabela’s and the mall proposed in Applewood.
After saying they had no new information on the mall, one of the organizers asked the gent if he had something to add.
He certainly did, noting that the mall was a done deal.
How do you know, the organizers asked?
Read your Sentinel, the man replied.
All five of our newspapers have reported on the plans that are being kicked around, but we’ve yet to declare anything a done deal. In fact, it will likely be months if not years before we know if it’s a done deal or a dead deal.
