Students of Running Creek Elementary School met author and
illustrator Gary Raham Feb. 10.

Raham, lives in Wellington with his wife and is a former biology
teacher turned science writer and illustrator. His success,
garnered through natural history books, science video script
writing and the occasional science-fiction story, has carried him
into the schools of the many children who enjoy his
drawings.

Raham’s goal is to make science fun for kids.

During his interactive teaching sessions, Raham asks questions
of his young audience while sharing his love of paleontology,
history and journaling with his readers.

Excitement abounds when a real live dino tooth comes forth from
his secret pocket or when an ancient dinosaur claw demonstrates the
vicious life cycle process of the carnivorous dinosaur.

While Raham serves as a correspondent and columnist for The
North Forty News and the co-regional adviser for the Rocky Mountain
Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators,
he still enjoys teaching. He has collaborated with a Colorado
teacher to adapt his science fiction/science fact book “The Deep
Time Diaries” for teaching earth science and creative writing at
the middle school level. His newest publication,”Teaching Science
Fact with Science Fiction” is due to hit the bookshelves sometime
in 2004.
