By winning eight of 12 events, Ralston Valley’s girls swim team won its first Class 4A Jeffco League swimming title Feb. 7 at Englewood High School. The Mustangs edged second-place D’Evelyn by 31 points.
Ralston Valley’s two multiple individual event winners were sophomore Meagan Wengrove and junior Keely Hodges. Wengrove captured the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Hodges sprinted her way to the 50 and 100 freestyle crowns. Sophomore Molly Meyers took the win in the 100 backstroke and freshman Kylie Seller dove her way to victory in the diving event. The Mustangs also won the 200 and 400 freestyle relay events. Rachel Schassburger and Allyson Paul were members on the winning relay teams, along with Wengrove, Hodges and Meyers.
Golden was the only other school to have individual champions. Junior Kelley O’Dell took home the titles in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Senior Maggie Peoples won the 100 butterfly for the Demons. Golden placed third in the team standings.
D’Evelyn’s lone title was in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Kim Robinson, Renee Rainguet, Tracie Mangone and Rachel Bakken won for the Jaguars.
The 4A state swim meet will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13 and 14, at Mountain View High School in Loveland.
