Candy shame

14500 block of West Colfax Avenue, Sept. 11, 5:20 p.m.

A 19-year-old candy store clerk is accused of doling out the sweets, but failing to collect the currency. The shop owner said the employee was “giving away fudge and candy to his friends without permission.” The storeowner said she watched the employee via a live Internet feed give candy away. She went to the store and confronted him about his “unacceptable behavior.” The clerk told police he was only doing what his boss told him: give discounts to friends, family, employees and employees of surrounding shops at the mall. So when she confronted him he told her “that he was not going to be her candy whore.” The employee “was then fired for theft,” police said.

Flower power

6800 block of West Mexico Drive, Sept. 16, 9:15 p.m.

Neighbors have their problems; two in particular have a flower issue. A 35-year-old man and his wife planted several flowers on the edge of their property on Aug. 31. “In the first week of September the flowers and lawn had been dying off,” police said. Suspicious of his 40-year-old neighbor, he set up a video camera to monitor the flowers through the wee hours of the night.

“His video shows the neighbor entering onto their property and spraying something onto the flowers in the flower bed,” police said. “As she walks away she is seen spraying the same thing on the lawn.” A separate tape shows the same neighbor “walking to the flower bed, and what appears to be her stomping on the flowers.” No arrests are indicated in the report.

Shooing the pooh

5900 block of West Ohio Drive, Sept. 11, 4:15 p.m.

A white haired senior citizen was out walking his dog. When the hound started to assume the position, a 47-year-old neighbor started barking. The old man, police said, “allowed the dog to defecate on the grass.” When the 65-year-old dog owner was asked to clean up after his pooch he “became irate and threatened (the home-owner) by saying ‘you need your ass kicked,’” police said. The two lapped their salty tongues at one another for a bit more and then separated. Police were unable to locate the hot-tempered dog owner.
