Green beer, leprechauns, corned beef, cabbage, and mariachi bands? It must be St. Patrick’s Day in Jefferson County. It’s the one day a year folks can grab the green and celebrate the ridding of the snakes from Ireland.

Cheers.

Brains for beer

The luck of the Irish could be yours if you’ve got what it takes to outsmart the staff of Golden City Brewery. The brewery is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day dinner of – you guessed it – corned beef, cabbage, new potatoes and, of course, a pint of ale, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 17, at the brewery, 12th and Cheyenne streets in Golden. Don’t miss the brain-teaser contest at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the timed event will take home a case of any of the brewery’s offerings, except the barley wine. Dinner costs $4.50. Call the brewery at 303-279-8092 for more information.

The Brits are coming

Although it’s a British pub, the cooks at the Cheshire Cat Brew Pub, 7803 Ralston Road, are cooking up a traditional Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage for about $10 to celebrate St. Patty’s Day. To add a bit of green to the orange cat, the musicians of Mulligan’s Stew Irish band will play upstairs from 7 to 10 p.m.

Look like a leprechaun

To properly celebrate any holiday, one must not only act the act but should look the look as well. For between $45 and $60, Disguises, a Lakewood costume shop, will make anyone look just like a leprechaun. The costumes include knickers, a white T-shirt, a cummerbund, bow tie, a top hat and a jacket, all of which are green. (Where’s the pot of gold?) The store also features plenty of pinch-prevention accessories, such as hats, boas, head pieces and glitter. For the women who don’t want to be leprechauns, the store has St. Patty’s skirts, shorts and vests. Call 303-462-0401 for more information or drop by the store at 9797 W. Colfax Ave.

Parade Day spectacular

It wouldn’t be St. Patty’s Day in Jeffco without a trip to Clancy’s Irish Pub at 10117 W. 37th Place in Wheat Ridge. This year, the Coors will be green and on tap. The celebration begins Friday night, March 14, as Gobs of Phun, a band of brothers, will take the stage. Another popular item – buckets of Killians – also will be in the spotlight beginning Friday night. Saturday, March 15, is known at Clancy’s as Parade Day because Denver’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place that day. Parade Day features the St. Patty’s Day menu of corned beef and “Clancy’s Pride” smoked sausage, with bagpipers stopping by sometime around 3 or 4 p.m. The special menu continues on Monday, March 17, for a flat fee of $8. Call 303-424-2964 for information.

Mex it up

Talk about mixing mediums. Jose O’Sheas, 385 Union Blvd, in Lakewood, has a slate of Mexi-Irish offerings. On Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15, the restaurant will host a cantina party and dining room specials starting at 4 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday March 16, a mariachi band will strum as diners enjoy an Irish brunch. From 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. the blows of a bagpiper will provide the rhythm as Irish step dancers entertain. For more information call 303-988-7333.

Irish Rose

The Buffalo Rose is celebrating St. Patty’s Day twice – March 14 and March 17. Both days feature all the green beer you can drink for $10 from 7 to 9 p.m. On March 14, Lightning Pilot will be playing, as well as Mr. Squishy. On March 17, Third Road Home will play. Catch the rose at 1119 Washington Ave. or call 303-278-6800.

Rest your laurels

The Rock Rest is hosting a preparty March 15, sponsored by Guinness, which will give away free rounds. For St. Patty’s Day, which is sponsored by Coors and Killians, there will

be a scavenger hunt in the bar, not to mention bobbing for cucumbers. Also, the restaurant will be serving authentic smoked corn beef and cabbage for $5.99 from March 15 to March 21. Rock out at 16005 Mount Vernon Road or call 303-216-2895.

A silent Irish?
