After a break in the construction season, Parker motorists
should prepare to see an abundance of orange cones along the town’s
roads this spring.

One upcoming project will widen Pine Lane from a two-lane road
to a four-lane road with a middle turn lane.

The widening will begin at Parker Road and extend east to Dixon
Drive, the road used to access Sierra Middle School, said Art
Griffith, manager for Douglas County capital improvement projects.
The road will taper back into two lanes east of Dixon
Drive.

Crown Crest Boulevard will be extended and intersect Pine Lane
west of Sierra Middle School.

The road will be used as the back entrance to Parker Adventist
Hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2004, and as an additional
entrance to the Crown Point development.

The second entrance to the hospital is one reason the widening
work is being done, said Jeff Potts, Parker project
manager.

“The road needs to be repaired, but the need for a second access
point for the hospital was very important,” he said.

Because the road is in Douglas County, the county is expected to
front most of the $2 million bill. Parker and Crown Point will
contribute about $200,000 each, Griffith said.

Crown Point will also pay for the traffic signal at Crown Crest
Boulevard and Pine Lane.

Intersection improvements at Pine Lane and Parker Road also will
be part of the project. A double left-turn lane will be installed
from southbound Parker Road turning eastbound onto Pine Lane and
eastbound Pine Lane turning to south bound Parker Road.

Douglas County officials are still acquiring right-of-way access
and working with utility officials. Construction will likely take
most of the summer.
