The bane of Douglas County wears a number, and that number is
40.
Rangeview’s Josh Galligan ran for 215 yards and three touchdowns
Friday as the Raiders handed the Huskies their second loss of the
season 29-14.
The Huskies’ defense held the Raiders scoreless in the first
quarter. However, in the opening minutes of the second quarter, the
Raiders’ offense wore down the Huskies, and Galligan punched it in
from 7 yards out for the first score of the game.
The Huskies’ offense struggled in the second quarter, while the
Raiders seemed to build on their momentum. On the second drive of
the quarter, the Raiders took over in Douglas County territory and
drove 44 yards to increase their lead.
With less than three minutes remaining in the half, the Huskies
took over on the 20-yard line and, for the first time since their
opening drive, were able to eat up some yards. Quarterback Tyler
Robertson connected with Travis Wiens for 45 yards.
Once again, however, a promising drive yielded no points, and
the Huskies entered the locker room down 14-0.
When Rangeview took possession on its 3-yard line with 1 minute,
30 seconds left in the third quarter, it looked like the Huskies’
defense would shut out the Raiders for the second quarter of the
game.
Enter No. 40.
Galligan took a handoff on the 10-yard line, slipped a couple
tackles and ran 90 yards for his second touchdown of the
game.
In the fourth quarter, Douglas County found a way to turn a
setback into a gain. After Robertson was sacked for a safety,
Rangeview fumbled on the ensuing kickoff and Douglas County
recovered.
The Huskies capped the 47-yard drive with their first touchdown
of the game.
Then Galligan struck again. With five minutes remaining in the
game, Galligan took a handoff and ran 48 yards for another
Rangeview touchdown.
“Anytime you let those two big runs get away from you, it’s
discouraging,” Douglas County coach Jeff Ketron said. “But I didn’t
see our kids have an emotional letdown.”
The Huskies again turned a setback into a gain and drove 75
yards on their next possession to close the gap little.
The loss drops the Huskies, who have yet to play a league game,
to 2-2 for the season, while Rangeview jumps to 3-1.
