Spring program starts Thursday

The Douglas Public Library District is buggy for books this
spring.

Flit, fly or wiggle to your local library and sign up for the
district’s spring reading program, “Centipede, Millipede – Let’s
Read!” running Thursday through April 30.

Once registered, read 15 books and write the title on your
“Centipede, Millipede – Let’s Read!” reading log. (Prereaders can
listen to books read aloud to them).

Bring the completed reading log back to your local library, and
readers will be rewarded with a special certificate, a bug box and
a chance to win a real butterfly nursery.

In addition, answers to some “creepy, crawly” trivia (on the
reading log) can be found under kids corner at the library Web
site, www.dpld.org.

To celebrate the world of bugs and the spring reading program,
two especially buggy events will be offered: “Dr. Mike’s Bag of
Bugs” and “Bugs Galore,” the district’s annual spring puppet
show.

Dr. Mike’s Bag of Bugs, presented by Dr. Michael Weissman, is an
educational program using living and preserved specimens to explore
the fantastic world of insects and their relatives, the
artropods.

Participants will be encouraged to take a closer look at the
“amazing little world all around us.” Dr. Weissmann is the
co-founder of the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center in
Westminster.

He consults on butterfly houses and insect zoos around the
world. Dr. Mike’s Bag of Bugs will be at 6:30 p.m., March 1, at the
Parker Library; 4:30 p.m., March 5, at the Roxborough Bookmobile;
6:30 p.m., March 5, at the Lone Tree Library; 7 p.m., March 12, at
the Philip S. Miller Library; 1 p.m., March 31, at the Highlands
Ranch Library.

Bugs Galore, the spring puppet show, will feature caterpillars,
ladybugs, bees and butterflies as the stars of the puppet
shows.

The library district’s talented storytime puppeteers will
entertain young audiences with a presentation of Eric Carle’s “The
Grouchy Ladybug,” along with many other silly skits and songs – all
about bugs!

Bugs Galore will be crawling around at 7 p.m., April 2, at the
Highlands Ranch Library; 7 p.m., April 5, at the Parker Library;
6:30 p.m., April 9, at the Lone Tree Library; 6 p.m., April 10, at
the Louviers Library; 4:30 p.m., April 16, at the Philip S. Miller
Library.
